Benin is een land in Afrika. Het grenst in het westen aan Togo, in het noordwesten aan Burkina Faso, in het noordoosten aan de Republiek Niger in het oosten aan Nigeria. In het zuiden ligt het aan de Baai van Benin, onderdeel van de Golf van Guinee. Tot 1975 was het land bekend onder de naam Dahomey. Benin werd op 1 augustus 1960 onafhankelijk van Frankrijk.
